There are a lot of different ways to go about setting goals. You can set them to reach a certain level of income, to be able to buy something, to have your kids go to college, etc. You can set goals to achieve something that is personally important to you or you can just set them up to be conducive to a good life and achieve financial freedom. There are various ways to do it and I think that's one of the cool things about this whole "goal setting" thing - you get to just do you. Regardless of what your personal goals are, the most important thing is to set them.
Think about the different areas of your life that you can set goals for. For example, for weight loss, you can say "I'm going to lose 20 pounds in 3 months." Or starting a business, "I'm going to start my own business. My goal is to make $100,000 in revenue within 2 years." Or need a new car, "I'm going to have a new car by the end of the year.” Or getting healthy, "I'm going to run a marathon." And so on. These are all amazing goals and a great way to improve your quality of life. But what are the most important things you should know before you set yours?
It’s no secret that goals are powerful. But just coming up with specific goals can seem so challenging that many never begin. And when they do get started, they rarely stick to them or follow through until completion. Have you had great intentions and made a list of goals but never made it to the finish line?
One reason could be that you're afraid of failing. I know the fear of failure has held me back from pursuing so much in my life. The truth is, most people don't fail by aiming too high or setting unrealistic goals. Rather, they fail because they don't know how to go about setting goals in the first place. But that doesn’t mean you can’t set goals and accomplish great things. It just means that you need a little guidance in this whole "goal setting process". I’ve learned a lot about setting and achieving goals over the last several years. My advice in this article will hopefully help you, too.
Goal setting is one of the best ways to boost your productivity, reduce stress and make better decisions when trying to reach your personal goals as well as your business goals. But it's not easy to set a goal that you're passionate about and work towards it consistently. However, following these tips will help you achieve goals that will result in long-term success. So, here are ten things you should know when it comes to setting goals.
1. Be Specific When Goal Setting
“The best way to set a goal is to make it specific. To do otherwise is to set yourself up for failure.” -David Allen. I couldn't agree more. Make sure that when you set goals, you’re specific. The best way to do this is to set SMART goals. For example, instead of writing something like “Be better at my career” it’s far more effective to write “I will have 20 new clients by the end of the year” or “I will finish this project by the end of the week.” Make sure that you set SMART goals so that you can act on them and feel them in your own life. When it comes to achieving goals, make sure that your actions align with your stated intentions.

2. Identify Your Core Values
The second principle on this list is: Be clear on your values during the goal setting process. This principle is closely related to the first one: Set goals that are specific. The key difference here is that your values should guide your goals. If you don’t know who you are yet and what you want out of life, you’ll always lack direction. Once you know what you stand for, you’ll be able to set goals that align with those values and achieve goals that are true to who you are.
For example, your personal values could include:
I want to live a happy and fulfilled life.
I want to be the person who makes people smile and laugh.
I want to have fun.
I want financial freedom to travel the world.
I want to surround myself with positive people who make me feel good.
When you identify your values, you can begin to better understand your beliefs and goals and what they mean to you. Ask yourself questions like, “What are my top priorities in life?” “What do I want to do with my life?” or “What is important to me?” These questions will help you to identify your values. Once you have clarity of your values, you'll be able to set goals that are aligned with them.
3. Have an Action Plan For Your Life Goals
The reason why you should always have an action plan for achieving your life goals is that without a plan, you’ll never know whether you are succeeding or failing and on the right track to achieving your goals. And without a plan, you'll never know whether or not you're truly making progress toward your goals. You need to be able to see what you’re trying to achieve and how you are going to achieve it. And you need to be able to keep track of all your successes and failures. Without a plan, there’s no way to tell if you are on the right path.
So what does it mean to have a plan? It means that you have an idea of what you want to achieve and how to get there by following specific action steps. It means that you know your specific goals and can track them as they change over time. But having an action plan means more than just having those two things. It also means that you know how to reach your goals with specific action steps. You have a plan for reaching your goals, and you understand the process of reaching them.
4. Keep Your Goals Short and Sweet
If setting an ambitious goal seems like it would be too overwhelming, then breaking it down into smaller goals is the next best thing. You can set an overall goal that is long-term and ambitious but just break it down into manageable smaller chunks. Small goals provide motivation and keep you on track. They allow you to set manageable and attainable goals, and they give you a sense of progress. When you have small goals, you are more likely to achieve them.
5. Don't Compare Your Goals to Others
It is easy to compare your goals to others. But don't fall into this trap. You may see someone else doing something that you want to do and then feel the urge to do it too. You may feel that you don't measure up and that your goals are inferior.

It's important to remember, though, that everyone has different dreams and goals. You have to find yours by searching your heart and soul, not by comparing yourself to others. It's not important how many goals you have, but what your goals are. That's what makes you unique.
What is truly important is what you can do with your life. Comparison can lead you down the wrong path and cause you to lose focus. Stay focused, stay true to yourself and stay the course.
6. Make Your Life Goals Compelling for Effective Goal Setting
When setting goals, it's important to make them as compelling as possible. The easiest way to do this is to make them personal and emotional. The more emotional you make your goals, the more likely you are to achieve them. Make your goals as emotional as possible.
For example, if you want to make $100,000 a year, break it down into smaller goals like "I want to earn $10,000 this month to help pay down debt so I can buy a house" or "I will be able to leave my job at the end of this month and pursue my dream of having a dance studio". You can do this by using phrases like "I can," "I will," or "I want."
Having a compelling goal will help you stay on track and motivated. It can also help you feel better about yourself when you achieve it. There are many ways to make your goals compelling, but some tips include finding a challenge, focusing on the end result, and creating a personal timeline.

7. Visualize Your Future
"Believe you can and you're halfway there." ~ Theodore Roosevelt
It's important to visualize the outcome of your goal, but it's also important to set that picture in your mind before you even start on the journey. This technique will help you visualize the end result and give you a sense of confidence and excitement about your goal. Take a look at your goals and make them as clear as possible. Use vivid images to help you reach your goal faster and feel more confident about it.
Once you have set your goals, you can use visualization to help you stay motivated and focused on your goal. Visualization is a process by which you imagine a situation that leads to your goal being realized. Your mind will naturally create images or pictures in your head as you visualize the goal.
A great way to visualize is to create a vision board. You can create a board for anything you want. If you're creating a board for weight loss, then you might want to include pictures of yourself shopping for clothes in a smaller size and working out at the gym, or going for walks. If you're creating a board for a new career, then you might want to include pictures of yourself in your ideal job and feelings of accomplishment.
The "Vision" is the most important part of your goal-making process for me. Visualize your goal in as much detail as possible. Try to picture it exactly the way you want it to be and make sure that this vision is clear, vivid, and visceral in your mind.
8. Don’t Be Afraid to Fail
Some people are so afraid of failure that they never even try to achieve their goals. But what these people don't realize is that failure is a good thing. It's the best teacher you'll ever have. It's the doorway to success. The moment you give up, you're giving up on yourself. The moment you quit, that's when you've learned the most.
I've seen so many people who are afraid of failing to make excuses for why they can't achieve their dreams. If you're not afraid of failure, then you're not doing it right. So be fearless when setting your goals and don't be afraid to fail.
9. Make Them Meaningful To Stay Focused

Setting goals is a vital part of any successful endeavor, but it can be easy to set goals that are too vague or are not meaningful. When setting your goals, make sure that you are focusing on what matters most to you and what you want to achieve. Take the time to identify your passions and values, and make sure that your goals align with them. Additionally, make sure that your goal is achievable and relevant to your current situation. If your goals are too vague or do not align with your personal values, then you should re-evaluate them.
The purpose of setting goals is to achieve the desired outcome, but what makes them meaningful? For some people, the goal has to be specific and measurable. Others may prefer goals that have a personal meaning to them. Ultimately, your goal should be something you are excited about and can see yourself achieving.
10. Determine Your Why
It's important to have a why when setting goals. A why is something bigger than yourself, and it gives you something to work towards. It's about what you want to achieve, and why you want to achieve it. This is the part that keeps you motivated, as it gives your goals meaning. A good reason for setting goals is to make a difference in the lives of others. A why helps you to keep moving forward and gives you the motivation to persevere in the face of adversity.
Conclusion
Goal setting is important for everyone, whether you are a student, an employee, or a business owner. By taking the time to set goals and create a plan to achieve them, you can improve your life in many ways. To get started, take some time to think about what you want to achieve and then come up with an action plan that will help you reach your goals. Remember to be specific and realistic when setting your goals, and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed.
But it's also important to keep in mind that there is no one perfect way to set goals. There are many factors to consider when setting goals, such as your personality and what will work best for you. So don't be afraid to experiment with different goal setting processes until you find one that works best for you. And most importantly, don't forget to celebrate your successes along the way!!
This is wonderful advice. I even shared it on my Facebook page but does people really know how hard it is for someone like me to fund an online business? Really.. I’m curious if they whom ever they are motherment/government knows how much of a struggle it is for people like me who’s had my bank accounts drained, been targeted online for many years, have had investments stolen from online. I mean there’s so much that it’s too much to even type here. I’ve reported it to the police, to ftc & it’s been over 2 years almost 3 years ago and I haven’t heard anything. Maybe I really should be looking for a lawyer to sue the banks and…
